Harbinger of Death

Sometimes I just find myself
Staring at the sky,
Cursing the name of Odin
And his lap-dog goddesses of death.

The Valkyries.

If it weren't for that accursed harbinger of death,
My father, who went out into that war,
Would still be alive.

How can these beings show no remorse?
Do they just stalk the battlefields
Looking for a wounded soldier,
who just has a small chance of survival,
to whisk their souls away?
Can they not show even the slightest
speck of mercy?
Have they considered the fact
that these men have families,
wives, children, who love them so,
and want them to return home alive?

This time, I will set things right.
I shall slay the harbinger of death,
no matter what it takes.
